Forth an Syns (translates from Cornish as The Saints’ Way) developed from my postgraduate research into the footpath and pilgrimage route linking Padstow to Fowey. The resulting installation comprised four elements:-
1. Everyman: steamrollered (Corten steel sculpture )
2. Men Gurta: transference (large-scale digital photograph)
3. St Breock Downs: conversations (30 minute audio piece)
4. Forth an Syns (publication - archival document including my photographs and poetry)
How loud the background hum
Of the world in forward motion has become,
Its unrelenting shout and strife
Penetrating all degrees of life.
And as disquiet, dishonour and disease
Have planted tricksters in the house of peace,
Trust and the gentle dawn are ruptured both
And everyone has sacrificed the Earth:
Dependencies of one upon the other
Turns day to night and robs us of a home.
